Leadership Development

All organizations are perfectly

aligned to get the results

they get.       ARTHUR W. JONES

“We sift through all the possible causes of failure, searching for one broken part—a bad manager, a dysfunctional team, a poor business unit.  To repair the organization, all we need to do is replace the faulty part and gear back up to operate at predetermined performance levels.

This is the standard approach to organizational change.  It is derived from the best engineering thinking.  I believe this approach explains why the majority of organizational change efforts fail.”

                                                                                     Margaret Wheatley

Most executive coaching and leadership development is individual and focuses on identifying goals, actualizing a personal vision, naming your passion and setting up action plans.

I do this with a difference.  I am interested in:

· how you undermine what you know is in your best interests

· the assumptions you bring to work and relationships with clients and colleagues

· defensive routines that can permeate how you think and what you think about

· how family roles can unconsciously shape business interactions

· how personality type engages or distances you from those you work with

I work with people who:

· are not getting promotions because the aren’t getting along with other people

· are indecisive as decision-makers

· project weakness and know they need to be more assertive

· want to know their blind spots so they can be more aware of them

· are in a time of decision, transition or stagnation, who want more information to work with

· are tired of the seeing things only as linear, cause-and-effect problems and solutions

Whether you are a member of a relatively small business, want to improve your performance on a business team or are the custodian of a corporation worth millions of dollars, I have worked with decision-makers in each category to bring more clarity and definition to everyday challenges.

Executive coaching and leadership development with a difference is helping leaders:

· identify themes and patterns within their organization that can replay themselves at

     many levels

· focus on the whole instead of reducing and separating problems into parts

· avoid the seduction of details and complexity to render simple to understand models,

     all without being simplistic

· form a vision of what they want to free up organizational energy and purpose

· become more aware of the implicit assumptions that hold them when they work with

other people or make any attempt to change the structure within our organization.

· understand why fixes don’t work, what are limits to growth, what balancing structures

are restraining your organization from moving forward

It was Einstein who said “It is almost impossible to solve a problem from within the

same consciousness that created it”.  That’s true.  Thinking can become circular.  You

don’t ask the right questions because you are too close to the problem.

Leadership development and executive coaching can be a focused, reflective process

where people step aside from the turbulence of solving problems to letting their problems

solve them.  You can move closer to existing problems to learn more about yourself, to

expand the information available to you, to get out of the box of your own thinking, in one

sense, to practice alternate scenarios.

I welcome further opportunity to talk with you about this process and how it might fit with

your particular needs.  Please call me at (651) 308-1200 for a no obligation conversation about how executive coaching and leadership development could make a significant difference to your life or company.

“The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice.

And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to

change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds.”
